Line Ups Are Longest When Prices Are At Their Highest
“CondoMania! Buyers lured by zero down payments and low interest rates,” a local newspaper headline reads. The article went on to explain how people lined up overnight on a downtown street in February to be able to have the first opportunity to buy a new condo. 494 units were sold in 9 hours, a new record for an already successful real estate agent. Condo prices ranged between $269,900 to $399,900 for a small two bedroom unit.
My memory is not perfect, but, I believe just three years ago you couldn’t give away a condo. The newspaper and media showed condo owners crying about leaky condos. No one, including myself, would have considered the exponential gains that were about to come.
I am not making predictions nor am I qualified to suggest that I can predict the future prices of this market. But the headline started me thinking. Over the past 24 years of being in practice I continue to see similarities in buyer/investor patterns, how media and how headlines repeat themselves.
